Hello, World

I haven’t run a blog since college, and that was over 2 decades ago.

And now I’m back.

The path that led me here is likely one shared by many of us - centralization happened. We all jumped onto facebook, and then it wasn’t worth it to pay a webhost to share your inner-most thoughts with the internet, and then everyone was there and then it got more and more awful and Cory Doctorow got to coin a new term about it and, at the risk of turning this run-on sentence even longer, has there ever been an oracle as strongly vindicated as Doctorow?

Anyway, now we’re used to everything online being absolute ass-butts. Does anyone like going on social media? Like, looking forward to it? Or is it just something we do now, now that our earlier eager pursuits of reading things on the internet that sparked thoughtful joy got subsumed into “Web 2.0 - the social revolution!” that just turned out to be a lot of duplicitous assholes trying to capture the eyeballs of the public and direct them where they will in ways that bring them the most money and power and money and wealth and money and oh god so, so, so much money, just… wow, that’s so much money.

Anyway, I’m realizing I was better off before. Maybe even most of us were.

Despite their best efforts to convince us otherwise, we’re not trapped there. We can break back out to a better place. In fact, it’s not even breaking out, it’s just, you know, using the tools that have existed for about 3 decades.

So anyway, hi. Hello. It is nice to make your acquaintance again.
